FNV | Coronaprofiteurs

An illustration made for the Fat Cat Day 2022 booklet published by the FNV. The FNV is the biggest workers union of the Netherlands and they publish this booklet for a couple of years now to raise awareness on the value gap between the huge pay of certain CEO's and the minimum wage their workers make. This year there was a special focus on companies that made a hefty profit out of the corona crisis.

Together with my colleagues Ewout van Lambalgen and Ruben Maalman I've worked with and for the FNV for several years. The social issues they raise are incredibly important and being able to put this unified voice into imagery fills me with pride.

Vers Beton | ACAB

An illustration made to accompany an article from Vers Beton about police violence. After a demonstration about getting more affordable living spaces in Rotterdam was quite brutally 'handled' by the police here, there have been a lot of critical sounds. The full illustration shows the hard uniformity and rigid order of the police force, while still let some room for the humane underneath the uniform.

Sunny Heartbreak

Sunny and I, we have a very... Intimate relationship. Though nobody ever really saw us together in one room.

Throughout the years Sunny Heartbreak has done numerous performances. He has modelled, presented karaoke evenings, there was this time he was a bathroom attendant and now he has his very own livestream called the Heartbreak Hotline where he gives callers advice on matters of the heart.

Sunny may seem a little rough on the edges, almost macho even, but when you listen to what he has to say you'll quickly learn that he is quite the opposite. Here's a man who can talk about intimacy, love, sex and emotions without batting an eye. I like to see him a role model to boys and men who would like to show their sensitive side a bit more, but don't know how. He himself would probably describe it as "just being a gentle guy who knows his way 'round heartbreak".

Vers Beton | Flex Rent

An illustration made to accompany an article from Vers Beton about 'flexible' rent contracts in the Netherlands. In the article Michelle Salomons, Felix Voogt and Romy van Dijk explain the results of a recent research about these flex contracts and what this means for renters.
Thanks to efforts like this these contracts are a thing of the past now.

In the article I explain how this skatespot is different from other spots in it's openness and how this attracts non-traditional urban sporters as women and people from the LGBTQIA+ community as well.

Amsterdam Alternative / USA Election

An illustration made to accompany article 'Vote Today, We’ll Hit the Streets Tomorrow' by Brian Holmes in the Amsterdam Alternative. It was about the American elections in 2020 (Trump/Biden). Holmes explains why he feels that the republicans are ultimately losing the battle with the democrats and why NOW is the time to vote.
